Conference on Particle Transport Methods, Benchmarking, and Applications in Recognition of Barry D. Ganapol on his Retirement, Virginia Tech Research Center, Arlington, VA, USA, Oct 2-3, 2025.
Description
Professor Barry Ganapol is a prominent figure in the transport community, renowned for his exceptional analytical skills in addressing solutions to the transport equation. For over 50 years, he has played a crucial role in maintaining analytical transport theory as a vital area of research, establishing benchmarks for proposed numerical solutions to the neutral particle transport equation. His contributions include multiple collision solutions, analytical response matrix discrete ordinate solutions, and Lagrange interpolation of singular eigenfunction solutions, all applied to neutron transport and Fokker-Planck equations. Ganapol’s benchmarks are documented in more than 400 publications, including his book titled “Analytical Benchmarks for Nuclear Engineering,” and have been presented at his OECD workshops given over the past 18 years, spanning locations from Xian, China, to London, England, and Paris, France, reaching over 250 students. In recognition of Professor Ganapol’s dedication to the University of Arizona and his research contributions to the particle transport theory community and the American Nuclear Society (ANS).
