Abstract
Mr. Mike Valore will discuss the economic opportunities enabled by the innovation and versatility of microreactors to achieve the operational and clean energy objectives of energy customers. He will outline microreactor opportunities in addition to traditional power generation including process heating, district heating, and hydrogen generation. He will describe the ability of microreactors to facilitate new application innovations for greenhouses, desalinization plants, and space travel. Mike will demonstrate how microreactor implementation can enable economic growth of remote and underserved regions and open up new opportunities to facilitate the transfer to a safe, reliable, carbon-free power source.

Bio - Mr. Michael Valore
Michael has 15 years of combined experience in the energy sector, where he’s held varying roles of increasing responsibility. Michael is currently the Senior Director of Advanced Reactors Commercialization at Westinghouse. Prior to his current role, he served in another senior position as the Westinghouse Americas Procurement Officer where he was responsible for procurement of direct materials for North America and major overseas projects.

Michael joined Westinghouse in 2009 as a Mechanical Engineer within the AP1000 mechanical modules engineering organization. He also held roles managing first of a kind projects for AP1000 in the US and China and became responsible for all material and equipment delivery for AP1000 sites. Prior to joining Westinghouse, Michael started his career at FirstEnergy working as a Mechanical Engineer in a large, coal-fired power plant and then advanced into a Unit Engineer role.

Michael holds both a master’s degree in business administration and bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the Pennsylvania State University.

Bio - Dr. Vefa N. Kucukboyaci
Dr. Kucukboyaci joined Westinghouse Electric Company in 2001. He is a fellow engineer within the Global Innovation organization, working on the eVinci micro-reactor development project. He is leading the efforts in using the TRISO fuel in the eVinci design and also has an instrumental role in core design and thermal analysis activities, developing models and methods for coupled, multi-physics tools. His research areas include reactor physics, multi-physics applications, safety analysis, thermal-hydraulics, criticality safety, and radiation transport. Dr. Kucukboyaci has a PhD in nuclear engineering from Penn State.
